What is Content Writing?

In the early stages of SEO, a lot of black-hat SEO practices have seemed to unseat quality content as the top requirement for an effective SEO campaign. In a race towards getting high page ranking, many webmasters fell into the trap of giving more importance to keyword stuffing, using link farms, “spammy” links, and other practices that prompted search engines to review their guidelines and change algorithms that determine ranking for a site.

Fortunately, the online world got over that stage but not without much effort from search engines that continuously check if there are still webmasters who try to outsmart the SEO guidelines and make a shortcut to achieving high page ranking. And through the evolution that SEO had gone through, one element remained consistently important for page ranking – quality content.

It was king, and still is king. Check Google or Bing guidelines. Check all algorithm updates. All of them emphasized the importance of quality content writing in terms of aiming for high ranking with search engines. As it is, and will always be, quality content is the bedrock of an effective online marketing strategy.

Search engines rank the site’s page based on the relevant information users can derive from the site’s pages. This is the main and ultimate objective of all search engines – to give users search results that point to sites giving relevant and useful information they require. Hence, this becomes the top requirement for any SEO campaign to succeed.

Why is content king? If your site appears on the first 3 pages of the SERPs, then you know why content is important.

Users are Hungry for Unique and High Quality Information

Online users almost always pursue reliable sources of information. As they browse the World Wide Web, they are constantly waiting for opportunities to access sites that provide genuinely helpful and relevant information. Once they discover your site to be a source of quality content, you have to be prepared to provide them with the best and high quality online materials because they will be looking for those from your site. That’s how your site earns loyal readership.

Users Enjoy Well-Written and Web-Friendly Content

Users are easily turned off by articles that were poorly written and it’s a fact. Even if the information is relevant, if it was not written in a professional way, let alone, engaging way, readers will not stay a minute longer on that page and will find another site that can offer an easy-to-read and understand content. Your content should follow acceptable English standards on grammar and spelling to make it easy to read and understand. If you have content written with the reader in mind, your site will enjoy a loyal reader base.

Build Relationship with Readers

Your website is your gateway to reach to your existing customer base and new readers or visitors. Through your content, you are continuously building your relationship with your readers. And in order to gain their trust and loyalty, you should engage them constantly to know what they need or prefer, and when it’s time for them to make a purchase decision, they will remember you as their source of useful information when they needed them. By consistently creating authoritative content and helpful information that answer important questions, you establish your credibility and authority within the industry you are in. Your quality content helps build your reputation as well as your relationship with your readers and followers.

So regardless of any upcoming algorithm update or change, the key to a successful online campaign would still count a lot on quality content.
