Did you ever wonder which one is more powerful, the evergreen or trendy contents? You might have heard about “evergreen content” but don’t really understand what it is and why people say that it is key to a blog’s overall success. Does it have something to do with environment issues?

Evergreen Content
In the world of blogging and online marketing, evergreen content refers to posts and articles that are perpetually relevant. Evergreen content has nothing to do with trees or text color but the phrase may have been derived from the idea that green is fresh. Hence, evergreen is forever fresh. The topics discussed in evergreen content are always of interest to the readers, regardless of when the content is accessed. Editors always use the word “evergreen” to refer to certain kinds of stories – stories that live on beyond the time they were published. They stay alive, interesting and enjoyed by the reading audience at all times. They are timeless and sustainable.

To illustrate the concept of “evergreen content”:
If you are to write an article about SEO, an article with the title, “What is SEO?” may be considered an evergreen content, because at any time the article is read by Internet searchers or users, the acronym SEO will keep its definition and meaning. Hence, the information contained in the article will be valuable for anyone who wants to know about SEO regardless if it’s January or December.

Trendy Content
On the other hand, an article entitled “What are the 5 Most Popular Social Media Sites?” cannot be considered an evergreen content. Why? Because the information contained in this article for the year 2014 may no longer hold true for the year 2015. In other words, there would be changes that could affect the essence of the topic discussed. If a reader retrieved this article 2 or three months after it has been published, changes may have already affected the social media sites in terms of popularity. Hence, it may no longer be the information needed by the reader.

Trendy content, in this sense refer to topics, posts or articles that may change over time. These are topics that are in demand only at a certain period of time. People may be interested in the content at the time it was published but after that, it may no longer appeal to the readers. The topic of interest is only a trend for a short or limited time. These articles are seasonal and they can be viral – though not forever.

Between evergreen content and trendy content, it would seem that evergreen content has the edge and that’s because they provide stable, long-term benefits. They are the foundation of blogging. In contrast, time-critical trendy content don’t usually last for a specific period of time.
